Richard B. Akin - President/CEO

Background/Experience
Mr. Richard B. Akin has 35 years of health care management experience. For the past 26 years, Mr. Akin has served as the President and CEO of Collier Health Services (CHS Healthcare) a not for profit, primary health and Dental care provider in Collier County.

He initiated the Children’s Health Network, a pediatric system of care which provides the majority of health care for children in Collier County. CHS has 11 locations and their Mobile clinic, the Care Mobile. Mr. Akin is responsible for bringing the first Ronald McDonald Care Mobile® to Florida, and for initiating a pedodontic dental residency program as a partnership with the University Of Florida College Of Dentistry. Currently, he is developing a pediatric center of excellence for the children of Immokalee with FSU.

Mr. Akin is a graduate of Florida State University and the University of Miami, and holds degrees in biology and chemistry. He has done graduate study in health care administration and has received numerous awards for his service and dedication to health care excellence, including most recently Excellence in Industry Large Business award to highlight excellence in economic diversification and business innovation given by The Economic Development Council of Collier County (EDC), and the Harvey Kapnick award, given by the Collier County Community Foundation for the best managed not for profit in Collier County. He has received the Distinguished Service Medal from the Nova Southeastern University College of Medicine, and has served twice as the chairman of the Florida Association of Community Health Centers.

Currently, he is the Chairman of the Lee Memorial Health System Board of Directors and on the board of Ronald McDonald House Charities.



Steven D Weinman - Executive VP/COO

Mr. Weinman has been in management with CHS for over 23 years. He started as the Director of Information Technology. During that time he produced a practice management software system which was in use at CHS and other health centers for nearly 15 years. In 1988 he became one of two vice presidents as well as the Chief Financial Officer of the organization. Under his stewardship, organizational revenues have increased from less than $3 Million to over $22 Million. During the same period the dependence on Federal Grants has dropped from 86% to less that 25%.

From 1999-2000 he took on the additional duties of CEO of a new start Community Health Center in Broward County. From 2000-2005 he was the founding CEO of the Community Health Centers Alliance, a network of Community Health Centers across Florida. Beginning in 2005 he returned his focus full time on CHS’ growing business in Collier County. In 2007 he was named Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of the organization.

Prior to CHS, Mr. Weinman worked in management advisory services for Coopers & Lybrand, CPAs, as well as in IT positions in both government and the private sector. He is a graduate of the University of Florida where he received an undergraduate degree in Telecommunications, as well as a Masters in Business Administration in Management Information Systems and Accounting.

In addition to his work at CHS, Mr. Weinman has done extensive consulting with health care organizations. He has performed board training, strategic planning, IT and financial analysis, grant preparation and an extensive number of programmatic reviews for the federal government. He is a frequent speaker on various health center issues, and currently serves on the executive committee of the National Center for Farmworker Health.
